My words fade

against the sunset sky

I wait for the night and light a candle

I go out into the darkening yard, I stop under the trees,

and I speak what I have learned, what I have created during the day,

what people, sun and time have burned in my heart.

A voice rings out into the darkness

words fly at the speed of sound

until it bounces uphill

and broken in meaningless letters.

And then, a moment later, or an eternity later

I get an echo:

the snort of the egrets,

the smell of the sea

wind of longing

memory.
