Painting "If You Are There Then I'm Not Lost"

I saw her from afar:
with her arms down -
downstream, downwind, along the waves
she floated on melting ice,
along high banks,
past the most beautiful islands,
but no one awaited her there.

Others cultivated the most beautiful gardens,
they enjoyed them themselves, but let no strangers in,
and the ice raft melted and the sky turned dark towards evening,
the woman's face also darkened.

But in my island, the garden didn't grow,
though I hugged and warmed it and guarded it,
But the trees didn't blossom and the fruits didn't ripen.
People told me, you can't change anything here:
even if you do everything right,
it's snowing and snowing in your yard,
well, what the hell can grow here?
You have to wait for spring.
But spring never came,
only blizzards, icy winds.

And I gave up, I let my arms down,
but suddenly something in the direction of the sea
flashed, glittered, then faded.
I held my breath and watched - maybe I'll find it.
And then in the waves among the ice I find:
you stand with your arms down, just like me.

Disbelieving, I ask myself:
can it be -
that from so far away I saw
a tear in the corner of your eye?

And then I light a light in the window,
so you would notice me sooner,
I wave to you and shout and invite you,
and I'll prepare a place at the table.
And opening the door and myself
I ask you to stay here.
Even if my garden isn't blooming today,
but together we might succeed.
