THE HOPE IS ALL WE HAVE

Do you bring us hope or are you the light in the storm

this appearing, this disappearing between the waves,

and when we don't see you anymore, how afraid we are,

we are lost children, unloved and lonely.

And then you appear again -

light in the distance -

and we raise our heads

we are looking and we are afraid to lose, to let go, to be lost.

One morning someone said loudly that there was nothing there,

and that that light

only the reflection of the stars was indifferent,

he said that we are abandoned and lost.

But we didn't listen to him - what is he talking about there! - we pushed him away from us,

and again we stared into the darkness, catching you with our eyes,

and sometimes it seemed like we were ready again,

only this time it was harder to believe

that it is you, our miracle, our salvation.

So what are we to do, god? - we asked

we cried to the storm, - what shall we do?

And the wind, the wave, the creaking boards of the boat answered us:
